Shaheen Sheik-Sadhal became a lawyer because she believes in justice. Having spent a lifetime servicing the nonprofit sector on various issues - the arts, women's rights, water conservation, human rights - Shaheen resolved that these issues cannot be fixed without the requisite energy behind it. In today's modern times, money is probably the biggest component to the energy required, quickly followed by time and commitment. Merging her passion for social justice, her love of the law, and her entrepreneurial spirit gave birth to Esse Law Group, a boutique law firm empowering today's social entrepreneurs and start-ups to find their bottom-line in the new sustainable economy: profitability and positive social impact.
Shaheen serves as virtual general counsel to numerous early stage and growth companies. Her practice scope includes general corporate law, debt and equity financing, and intellectual property transactions. She also brings her decade-long business development experience to bear on clients' business strategy needs.
Prior to starting her own practice, Ms. Sheik-Sadhal was an associate at the boutique business law firm of Spillane Shaeffer Aronoff Bandlow LLP, focusing on intellectual property and real estate development. She also successfully has run an independent record label for nearly a decade. Ms. Sheik-Sadhal graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2000 and was admitted to the California State Bar the same year. She received her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley in 1996.
On a personal note: In addition to being a yoga practitioner and musician, Shaheen became a mother in 2010 and again in 2012. Being a mom has deepened Shaheen's commitment to building a world where social justice and sound economics go hand-in-hand.
